The Emerging Voices Fellowship will allow new and recent PhDs in the humanities and related social sciences to take up 1-year positions at participating institutions in ACLS’s Research University Consortium beginning in August/September 2021. The program will provide a $60,000 stipend plus benefits as well as $5,000 in research/professional development funding, childcare or elder care costs, and access to ACLS professional development resources. Up to 45 fellowships will be available for a fall semester 2021 start date.
How to Apply
The ACLS has invited Washington University to nominate four recent PhDs from the humanities and/or humanistic social sciences. “Recent” is defined as a degree earned within the period from January 1, 2018 to August 15, 2021 (including defense and filing) and conferred by October 1, 2021. For our internal competition, we ask that each PhD granting department’s chair or DGS submit up to three nominations. Please note the priorities outlined in the ACLS announcement when selecting nominees. Note, too, the ACLS expects these post-doc opportunities to be remote for AY 2021-22.
Nomination packets should be sent to cenhumapp@wustl.edu and need only include the following:
- candidate’s name;
- email address;
- an up-to-date CV (with dissertation title and date of degree a must); and
- a very short (75 words) endorsement explaining why the candidate is a good fit for this post-doctoral opportunity.
In order to allow the selection committee time to review packets and select Washington University’s four nominees, we ask that all nominations be submitted to cenhumapp@wustl.edu by 5 pm, Friday, March 26.
If you have any questions, please email Jean Allman, director of the Center for the Humanities, at jallman@wustl.edu.
