Graduate Writing Workshops

semester-long writing workshops for graduate students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences

The Center for the Humanities and the Writing Center are partnering in spring 2024 to offer writing workshops for graduate students in humanities and humanistic social sciences fields. The workshops will convene approximately 6 people each across fields and will meet every few weeks throughout the semester. (Times for the workshops will be determined according to member availability.)

These workshops are designed for those working on long-term academic writing projects such as dissertation chapters, major fields papers, dissertation prospectuses and articles.

Workshop members will be able to workshop a section of their writing (15–20 pages is the recommended length) at least once during the term, gaining valuable feedback from their peers and challenging themselves to be legible to audiences outside of their own field. As is standard practice with workshopping groups, each member will be expected to attend each meeting having read and prepared feedback on their peers’ work prior to the workshop.

The workshops will be led by the graduate students themselves, with some facilitation from graduate Writing Center fellows and the Writing Center’s Graduate Support Coordinator. A set location and refreshments will be provided.
