I think we - at least some of us lost perspective on "Weary Blues." The opening lines are participial phrases that must modify "I," the speaker. I think some of us were unable to separate the speaker from the observed singer. At any rate, the discussion was lively though a bit prolonged, I thought. Even it is amazing when so many smart people get together in one place, and almost everyone has a different angle on most topics. That is what is so appealing about these NEH institutes.
